Today, I want to address a topic that comes up in conversation frequently--where did the name "sew goony" come from? There is a simple and silly explanation.
My friends lovingly dubbed me with the nickname "Goon" many years ago and it has always stuck. It came about because I love crab rangoons.
When I was first setting up my Instagram (the platform where I originally launched sew goony), I went with the handle @sew_seamstressed. I quickly learned that it was difficult to tell my friends, family, and community how to find me... "sew as in S E W, underscore, seamstress with an E D at the end" it was a pain, not catchy, and not the vibe I was going for.
After floundering over many different ideas (I can't remember a single one now), my husband, Zach, came up with @sewgoony. I thought HOW CUTE! HOW PERFECT! HOW ME! The handle was available on Instagram and after a google search, I couldn't find anyone using the name anywhere else.
In June of 2022, I changed my handle on Instagram, made a simple logo in VSCO with my favorite shade of yellow, the happiest color in my opinion, and uploaded it to my profile. So began "sew goony"--the rest is history.
